With the current troubled economy and high gas prices shoplifting has seen an increase and retail store managers need to
protect their shops. Inventory loss is a needless burden that, with an effective security system, can be minimized easily.
Some interesting facts from the National Association for Shoplifting Protection:
Men and females shoplift about equally.
25% of shoplifters are kids and 75% are adults.
Only 3% of shoplifters are professionals - they steal for profit.
Shoplifters are only caught once every 48 times they steal.
Shoplifters who are caught are turned over to police only 50% of the time.
Shoplifting is often not a premeditated crime.
Shoplifters' biggest motive is getting the feeling of excitement of getting away with it.
Shoplifting produces chemical brain reactions giving the shoplifter that rush or high.
Shoplifting is an addiction. Even after getting caught, 66% caught can't stop.
Our Methods:
For the mutual benefit of the shop owner and offender, our intervention is proactive.
If the Integral Security Officer has probable cause to believe were unlawfully taken from the premises of the merchant and
which are in plain view may be examined by the Officer for purposes of ascertaining its' ownership.
Should the person detained refuse to surrender the item, a limited and reasonable search may be conducted in order to
recover the item. Only packages, shopping bags, handbags or other property in the immediate possession of the person
detained, but not including any clothing worn by the person, may be searched.
Upon surrender or discovery of the item, the person detained may also be requested, but may not be required to provide
adequate proof of his or her true identity.
Following the detention, and if it is established that shoplifting
has occurred or was attempted, and if criminal charges are to be
pursued, the suspect is given over to law enforcement authorities.
Do not attempt this tactic on your own. Shoplifters may become extremely agitated and often violent when confronted.
These tactics should only be used by a trained professional. If your on-site sales persons become injured or injure the
